WELLING United found the force of League One Charlton just too much to handle in Park View Road’s traditional curtain-raiser.
After 25 minutes, Charlton went ahead when impressive trialist Cameron Stewart’s deep cross found Jason Pearce and he finished well from close range.
Soon afterwards, a good Welling move sent Tom Bradbrook away but his short clip cross could not pick out Bradley Goldberg.
