THE first four weeks of the season in all three National League divisions leaves little breathing space. And the managers aren’t overly impressed by it.
Eight fixtures before September 2? Too much, too soon again. The need to avoid a backlog further down the line is understandable, but the desire to crowd a quarter of the season into less than a month isn’t.
Clubs take to the field twice a week, and some play nine times before four weeks have even elapsed. It can’t be good for anybody.
