MACKRELS SAVIOUR QUITS AS CHAIRMAN

STERLING JOB: George Dowell

WORTHING owner George Dowell has stepped down as chairman of the club – but will not be leaving the Mackrelmen in the lurch.
The 25-year-old, star of TV Undateables, was a popular playing figure at Woodside Road before a serious car crash left him paralysed from the chest down.
With the club on the brink of closure, Dowell used his compensation money from the crash to buy a 75 per cent stake in the club in April 2015 with the aim of steering them to the National League South.
