CANVEY Island responded to their heavy defeat at Heybridge Swifts in midweek with a thumping victory at home to lowly Waltham Abbey. The visitors started brightly and had chances through Billy Holland and Aron Gordon, but their failure to take them proved significant.
Frankie Merrifield put the hosts ahead just before the half-hour mark with a close-range finish and eight minutes into the second half their lead was doubled. George Sykes set up Martin Tuohy and he finished coolly into the bottom corner.
