DOORS TO CLOSE AFTER 125 YEARS

GRASSROOTS competition the Maidstone & District Saturday League is to fold after 125 years after being left with only seven clubs for next season.
The league, a feeder to the Kent County and in turn the Southern Counties East leagues, had run with just eight teams this season. In February, officials announced they were scrapping entry fees, but only one new club came forward.
The league’s end-of-year presentations will still go ahead at their annual general meeting on June 26. The league’s £8,000 funds will be divided between two charities.
