WELWYN Garden City crowned their introduction to Southern League football with a hard-fought home victory over Didcot Town.
An Adam Hunt goal on his debut got the home side off to a fine start when his cross-shot eluded visiting keeper Leigh Bedwell.
But the lead lasted just six minutes before visiting skipper Adam Learoyd levelled with a header from a cleverly worked free-kick.
It looked as though that would be the scoreline come the half-time interval, with both sides set to feel happy with the situation.
