Salford have made an inconsistent start to their first top-flight season but showed their strength here against another genuine contender. Neither will be far away come May.

DELIGHTED Graham Alexander praised the attitude and application of his Salford City team after Danny Whitehead’s late strike earned them all three points in a see-saw affair at Moor Lane.
