CLASS act Jason Walker signed off before a three match suspension with two more goals for Workington.
He could have had a hat-trick too, but hit the post late on when Workington were chasing a fourth goal.
The Cumbrians had made a bright start and took the lead on four minutes when Conor Tinnion released Sam Joel and an early ball into the box was lashed home by Walker.
Brad Hubbold almost grabbed a second with a fierce drive but Matlock keeper Richard Walton produced a flying save to deny him.
