IT WAS a classic selfdestruction at Top Field where Hitchin Town went down to a solitary goal from Jack Self.
The hosts began in determined fashion with intricate forward play that won a number of successive corners but James Goff in the Banbury goal was not severely tested.
Hitchin had the greater possession and the more imaginative ideas – Jack Green’s shot was just wide and home pressure was insistent yet inconclusive.
Banbury absorbed the attacks but were a little fortunate to be 0-0 at half-time.
