FITTING TRIBUTE TO WAR HEROES

VETERAN: George Haigh

A 103-YEAR-OLD RAF veteran unveiled a plaque yesterday in tribute to former Stockport County players who lost their lives serving their country during World War One.
George Haigh is one of the oldest surviving professional footballers in the world, having made his debut for the Hatters in 1936.
In total, 13 former County players lost their lives between June 1915 and November 1918 and prior to yesterday’s National League North visit of Brackley Town – the earliest opportunity to mark Armistice Day and the 100th anniversary of the end ...
