RUNCORN Town progressed into the next round of the cup with victory over a Rylands side who were making their competition debut.
The visitors started the better creating a few half chances, Tom McNamara flicking over.
The hosts took the lead on 35 minutes with their first shot on target. A loose ball in the box was hit goalwards by Craig Cairns and although the effort was blocked, Dave Forbes slotted home from six yards out.
Rylands went close with a free-kick that player-manager Stu Wellstead curled just wide of the right hand post.
