HAVING seen the results from the preliminary round of the FA Cup, especially in and around the Southern League area, I can’t help but wonder if the days of a tie against a Step 5 team being a very likely win are at an end.
In the Southern League Division 1 South alone, four teams fell to lower league opposition, with Exmouth – who had taken the notable scalp of Barnstaple in the Extra Preliminary Round – almost pulling off a shock win at Yate Town and earning a replay at their own ground.
