CANVEY ISLAND edged through, surviving a late fightback.
They got off to the perfect start after two minutes. A ball from the right by Conor Hubble was worked across to Evans Kouassi whose low shot caught a deflection and found the back of the net.
Kouassi scored again eight minutes later, when he nudged the ball past a defender to send himself through on goal. Keeper Lewis Carey came off his line but Kouassi got to the ball first, rounding the keeper and smashing high into the goal.
