A GEORGE Sykes brace helped Aveley see off visiting Witham.
Sykes opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Steve Sheehan had been fouled and Alex Clark doubled the lead moments later.
But the visitors pulled a goal back through Usman Adenji as he got on the end of a cross.
A brilliant passing move by the Millers then saw Sykes find the bottom corner.
It was soon 4-1 as debutant David Knight curled into the bottom corner.
Knight also went on to smack the bottom of an upright.
