LONG-SERVING midfielder Robert Briggs has been named as new club captain at Northern Premier League promotion contenders South Shields. The 28-year-old takes over the armband after former skipper Jon Shaw moved into a joint assistant manager role at the 1st Cloud Arena.
Briggs, the former West Auckland Town midfielder who has made 279 appearances over two spells with the Mariners, revealed his delight over his new role as his follows in the footsteps of some notable captains at the club.
