MATT THORNHILL’S goal for Basford United consigned South Shields to consecutive league defeats and their first on home soil.
It was Shields who had the first sight on goal as Conor Tee unleashed an effort that looked destined for the top corner only to be denied by a stretching Adam Collin.
The Mariners went close again when Will Mc- Gowan’s corner found Dillon Morse whose header was cleared off the line by Rev James.
The chances kept coming. Tee found McGowan whose pull-back picked out Blair Adams who should have found the net.
