You won’t regret a career as a ref

IT WAS interesting to read the feature on the shortage of referees last week (NLP, Dec 19).
While it’s a sad state of affairs, it’s good that this crisis has been highlighted as without young referees coming through, the future of the grassroots game is very bleak.
I’ve been a referee for over 30 years and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Refereeing has been very kind to me and I have met some incredible people along the way.
Reports of abuse are very rare indeed so I urge youngsters to get involved.
