■ GRAYS’ win over Dere- n ham Town got off to the best possible start when Geoff Okonkwo nodded home from a corner in the third minute.
The hosts controlled the opening period with Jimmy Smith orchestrating proceedings. Rhys Logan had the Magpies’ first effort on goal, which Danny Sambridge saved comfortably.
A fluid passage of play nearly brought a second Grays goal when Freddie Moncur flashed a volley just over.
