Buxton twice came back from behind to peg back promotion rivals South Shields in an intriguing battle between second and third in the table.
Robert Briggs gave the visitors the lead inside two minutes but the Bucks hit back through ex-Mariner Jason Gilchrist on the quarter-hour.
