■BASINGSTOKE took thepoints after a hard fought encounter with Stefan Brown’s early goal proving decisive.
It was a strike worthy of winning any game, a nicely taken half-volley from the edge of the box after a well crafted counter-attack.
Tooting can count themselves unfortunate after dominating the majority of possession and coming close on numerous occasions – debutant Enoch Ako-Adjei coming closest when his strike, midway through the second half, hit the underside of the bar and bounced out.
