PAUL Dawson’s penalty proved to be the difference for Bamber Bridge – as Basford paid for missing from the spot.
Owen Betts was adjudged to have handled a long-range shot from Aaron Skinner and Dawson stepped up to coolly send Kieran Preston the wrong way.
Basford debutant Jordan Helliwell – on loan from Barnsley for the season – tested Matthew Hudson in the away goal after only three minutes, and Dom Roma had a viable shout for a penalty after he was felled by Nathan Pond.
