CHESHAM United’s playoff hopes remain in their own hands after they overcame Walton Casuals at Elmbridge Sports Centre with a solitary goal.
The Stags, defending an unbeaten home record stretching back six months, started brightly.
In the fourth minute Rhodell Gordon forced a good save out of the Generals’ Sam Beasant and, seconds later, Jacob Munting came close to marking his Walton debut with a goal.
Gradually, Chesham got into the game with Gordon Gibbons increasing effective in midfield.
