Owner Swann ‘agrees a price’ for Scunthorpe sale

Scunthorpe United owner Peter Swann says he has “agreed a price” for the sale of the club following interest from an unnamed party.

Owner Swann

SCUNTHORPE United owner Peter Swann says he has “agreed a price” for the sale of the club following interest from an unnamed party.

The 56-year-old is entering his 10th season as owner but stepped down as chairman earlier this year with the club on the brink of being relegated from the Football League after 72 years.

Talking to the Iron Bru Podcast, Swann revealed the club are now awaiting the results of the FA’s ‘Owners and Directors’ test.

Asked if Scunthorpe had been sold yet, he replied: ‘’No, not yet. People think there are lots of millionaires out there ready to put money into football clubs but that’s certainly not the case.

“Me stepping down was really a prequel to going out there to try to find a buyer who can come in and buy everything, which is still the main aim. I don’t want to stay where I am not wanted, that’s fine I understand that, but it’s not easy.”

DEAL: Peter Swann

Local producer and entrepreneur Ian Sharp has been linked with interest in purchasing the club but, when quizzed, Swann could not be drawn on the identity of his prospective successor.

“I don’t think that’s fair at the moment,” he added. “We are currently under an NDA and when that times comes that they have bought the club/if they buy the club then those details will be announced.’’

While speculation intensifies, Iron boss Keith Hill is continuing to strengthen the squad, adding a sixth summer signing in midfielder Jacob Butterfield.

The 32-year-old arrives at Glanford Park after leaving Scottish Premier League side St Johnstone and brings with him a wealth of experience from the upper echelons of English football including the likes of Norwich City, Crystal Palace, Middlesbrough and Huddersfield Town.
