WHAT a sad story to read of young Aldershot Town player Alfie Saunders being forced to take an extended break from football due to mental health issues (NLP, July 17).
Becoming a professional footballer and making it at your local club is every young player’s dream, but this story just goes to show that there is more to life than fulfilling a career ambition.

It would have taken a huge amount for Alfie to open up to his peers, his manager and his club, especially having come so far in fulfilling his dream.
