RUNCORN Linnets were nvictorious on opening day against Widnes.
The game was goalless at the break, but Runcorn took the lead through journeyman frontman Nialle Rodney, who stole back possession before smashing a low shot into the bottom corner after 49 minutes.
The Linnets got a hint of fortune as they doubled their lead as a Jacques Welsh penalty smashed against a post, but the rebound was followed in by Lewis Doyle.
