ATHERTON Collieries frustrated league leaders and title favourites South Shields to earn a point in an entertaining goalless draw.
The Mariners created numerous chances but were let down by a combination of poor finishing and brilliant Atherton defending.
Bottom half outfit Atherton made the better start, with Scott Bakkar going close ten minutes in when his curling effort flashed over the bar.
