After just 80 seconds Finley Phillips forced Charlie Patmore into making a good save and the Lane goalkeeper made another intervention a couple of minutes later.
Rayners Lane started to exert some first-half control and they took the lead on 30 minutes when Ade Adewale scored.
The second half was all Cowes, with Phillips pulling all the strings from midfield.
After an hour and a spell of pressure, John McKie netted from the edge of the six-yard box.
