Freddie Price had put the visitors in a 19th minute lead before Haydn Campbell doubled their tally before the break.
Gregg Smith pulled on back for the hosts, but it was too little, too late despite the relentless pressure on the Marine goal.
The Merseysiders made the trip south in half-decent league form and had the first chance after only two minutes when Price raced onto a loose backpass but failed to fire beyond Kieran Preston.
