FA CUP heroes Alvechurch were left dumbstruck by Steve Cawley’s opener in the first minute – and they never truly recovered.
Cawley was left unopposed to fire Hitchin Town in front and only then did Ian Long’s Church respond.
They issued a stern warning when Jamie Willets’ close-range effort struck the crossbar - and they duly levelled on 21 minutes when Jediael Abbey nonchalantly sent in a free-kick that went in off the post.
