1874 returned to winning ways against fellow Cheshire side, Widnes. Only two minutes were on the clock as Joe Woolley opened the scoring, his first touch was good and the second was to lash home a half-volley with his left foot.
Jack Marrow was on hand to double the lead with a low drive, before a moment of controversy arrived in the 70th minute. Mark Jones appeared to win the ball in a tackle, but the ref brandished a red card.
