SPIRITED COLLS NO MATCH FOR MARINERS

DESPITE a spirited performance from Atherton Collieries, South Shields came out 2-0 victors from a closely fought affair at the Skuna Stadium.
Colls ended the game in 16th place, but defied the odds to match the title favorites throughout the contest, which was settled only when substitute Lewis Alessandra scored Shields’ second on 88 minutes.
The match was finely balanced from the off, with both teams probing for opportunities, but it was a game of few clear chances.
