■ WIDNES moved out of the division’s automatic relegation places for the first time since August with a win over Hanley.
It is now four wins in five for Michael Ellison’s side, who have moved to within two points of overall safety.
Their deserved opener came midway through the first half.
Connor McCarthy continued his rich vein of form as he received a square pass from Stephen Rigby before finding the far corner via a big deflectio– his third goal in as many games.
