MATT Bateman’s firsthalf strike proved the difference as Royston Town repelled a strong second half showing from Alvechurch to take the points.
Bateman fired home from the first real opening of the match on 33 minutes when Cole Da Silva’s shot was blocked and ballooned into the air, Kian Harness won the resulting header and directed it to Bateman, who made no mistake from close range.
The game continued to meander along with the only other chance of the half falling to Alvechurch in stoppage time when Dimi Kyriatzis saved low...
