BUTCHER BACK AT CITYZENS

 READING City’s search for a new assistant manager on the eve of the Combined Counties Premier North season came to a sudden halt – when Michael Butcher did a U-turn and told chairman Martin Law and boss Simon Johnson that he wanted to make a swift return to the club he loves.
Butcher had resigned to take up a new post elsewhere, but soon had second thoughts as City interviewed potential replacements in earnest.
He said: “It’s been a weird week but after a few days of thinking, weighing things up, I just didn’t want to leave.”
