GATESHEAD completed an encouraging pre-season with their second two-goal margin win of the week as South Shields’ disappointing warm-up campaign ended in another defeat in front of a 1,400-strong crowd at the 1st Cloud Arena.
The National League North newcomers got off to a flying start when a mistake at the back saw Joao Gomes shoot past Gateshead loanee keeper Archie Mair seven minutes in.
Gateshead, however, held sway and were level straight after the break when Marcus Dinanga turned and fired into the far corner.
