■ BOOTLE opened their league account with a tight win over Newcastle town.
The cagey start from both sides was typical of a first league game.
Bootle’s Arthur Lomax had an effort saved after 32 minutes but just two minutes later Bootle broke the deadlock with a fantastic header from James Cooper.
The visitors equalised on the stroke of half-time with an effort deemed over the line by the referee to the shock of Bootle players.
