Ex-Premier League ace Ryan Shotton defied injury to help keep alive Hanley Town’s Wembley dream more than a decade after his own close call under the arch.

EX-PREMIER League ace Ryan Shotton defied injury to help keep alive Hanley Town’s Wembley dream more than a decade after his own close call under the arch.
The 34-year-old, now player-manager of the Northern Premier League West outfit, named himself at the heart of the defence and popped up with the opening goal in Tuesday’s 2-1 preliminary round replay win at Stourport Swifts.
Shotton was next in line for a place in Stoke City’s squad for the 2011 final with Manchester City but went on to become a regular starter under Tony Pulis, scoring in the top flight and in Europe.
