GILCHRIST DOUBLE SEALS IT

A SECOND-HALF brace from Jason Gilchrist were enough to see Ashton United through at rain-soaked Giant Axe. In this battle of NPL rivals, the visitors held the upper hand ever since Alex Byrne tested Andre Mendes with a shot after three minutes.
Dan Cowan looked to have put Ashton ahead after 37 minutes with a powerful header from a corner but he was denied by an excellent diving save by Mendes.
Gilchrist thought he opened the scoring for Ashton when he found the back of the net with a header but the flag was raised for offside...
