Match Preview: Gainsborough Trinity v Basford United (Saturday, 3pm)

Gainsborough Trinity are heavy favourites to keep all three points at home in Saturday’s kick-off against Basford United.

The Blues, who sit 17th in the Northern Premier League with 28 games played, are priced at 1.6 to seal victory at the Northolme.

Sitting one place and eight points behind them in the table, Basford are 5.0 to win with betting companies*, while the draw is at 3.4.

In the last 10 years, Gainsborough Trinity and Basford have played each other on seven occasions. Gainsborough Trinity won four of them and Basford three.

On average, the Blues scored 1.3 goals and Basford 1.6 in those matches.

Their last meeting was on September 30, when Basford won 3-0 at home.

Gainsborough Trinity are in mixed form in the Northern Premier League, with three wins and three losses from their last six games.

With a win and two draws over that period, Basford’s form is worse – they have taken five points from 18, compared to the Blues’ nine.

With 30 goals in 31 games so far this season, United are the league’s joint-third-lowest scorers with 1.0 goals per game. But they are conceding fewer than average too, letting in 51 goals at a rate of 1.6 per game.

The hosts are also below average scorers, with 1.2 goals per game, compared to a league average of 1.7. They have conceded 1.8 goals per game.

Gainsborough Trinity’s last match was on February 10, a 1-0 win against Atherton Collieries.

Basford drew 0-0 with Hyde United last time out, also on February 10.
