Match Preview: Chesterfield v Rochdale (Saturday, 3pm)

Chesterfield host Rochdale in Saturday’s match at the SMH Group Stadium looking to bounce back from defeat last time out in the National League.

The Spireites, who sit top of the league after 33 games, fell to a 4-3 away defeat to Bromley on February 17.

They face a Rochdale side who also lost their last match, a 2-1 defeat to Solihull Moors, and who sit 14th in the table.

With 82 goals in 33 games so far this season, Chesterfield are the league’s highest scorers with 2.5 goals per game. And they are conceding fewer than average, letting in 42 goals at a rate of 1.3 per game.

Rochdale, meanwhile, are average scorers, with 1.5 goals per game. They have also conceded 1.5 goals per game.

The Spireites are in good form in the National League, with four wins and a draw from their last six games.

With a win and five losses over that period, the Dale’s form is much worse – they have taken three points from 18, compared to the hosts’ 13.

In the last 10 years, Chesterfield and Rochdale have played each other on nine occasions. They won four each, and they drew once.

On average, the Spireites scored 1.2 goals and the Dale 1.6 in those matches.

Their last meeting was on September 26, when Chesterfield won 2-1 away.
