Who will fly directly from the Norwegian Elitserien 2024: preview

Why Every

Battles in the strongest football division in Norway this season will begin on March 31 and end on December 1 this year. There are 16 teams competing in the Elitserien, which will play each other once at home and away, and will play a total of 30 rounds. The team with the most points will become the champion, and the clubs that take 14th and 15th place will be directly downgraded.

Four teams will fight to avoid being demoted at the end of the Elitserien 2024 season: KFUM Oslo, Fredrikstad, Kristiansund and Sandefjord. By studying the form of each of these teams, you can more likely predict who will be able to remain in the elite of Norwegian football next year.

KFUM Oslo

“White-red-blue” took second place in the OBOS-league last season and were directly promoted in class. Six points behind first Fredrikstad, KFUM Oslo was just as ahead of third Kongsvinger. Having suffered six defeats and drawn seven times, Johannes Mosgaard’s team won 17 victories. In addition, Cuff had one of the strongest defenses in the league, conceding on average just over one goal per 90 minutes of playing time.

KFUM Oslo managed to play four friendly matches in the off-season. The team beat Mjendalen, Viking and Odd with a total score of 7:1, but lost to Aalborg without a chance. The Caffa team consists exclusively of Norwegians who have no particular experience in Elitserien. So it won’t be easy for the “white-red-blue” to avoid being demoted at the end of the season.  Fredrikstad

The White-Reds became the champions of the OBOS League last year, beating the second KFUM Oslo by six points. Having won 18 victories and 10 battles resulting in a draw, Fredrikstad suffered only two defeats from the capital “Kuff” and Mjendalen. It should also be noted that Mychal Thomassen’s team had the strongest defense in the championship, conceding only 23 goals. Considering the results of the past season, we can come to the conclusion that the brainchild of Karl-Morten Gzeldnes deservedly won gold medals.

Fredrikstad began preparing for the new season in November 2023, beating Gothenburg in a friendly match. In 2024, the “aristocrats” lost to Lilleström in sparring, defeated Ham-Kam and did not reveal the strongest against Viking. In the Atlantic Cup, the “white-red” were stronger than Elfsborg and Midtjylland, but were minimally defeated by Real Salt Lake. The team has potential and it’s not worth writing off Julius Magnusson and his partners in advance.

Kristiansund

The Blue-Whites finished only fourth in the regular season in Norway’s second-strongest football division. In the final of the playoffs for the right to advance to the Eliteserien, Kristiansund beat Valerengu on aggregate only in a series of penalty kicks. It is also worth noting that in the regular season of the OBOS League, the brainchild of Vidar Solly had the strongest attack, which on average scored slightly less than two goals per match.

In the off-season, the blue-whites lost Molde and Levanger. At the same time, Amund Robertsen Skiri’s boys beat Ranheim, Ålesund, Asane and Tromsø with a total score of 11:3. Kristiansund is not very stable, but the team is quite capable of demonstrating its character.

Sandefjord

Last season, the Blue-Reds finished in 13th place in the standings, eventually finishing relegated Valerenga by a point. Having suffered 15 defeats and drawn seven times, Sandefjord won eight victories. At the same time, the Whalers had one of the worst defenses in the championship, conceding an average of just under two goals per game. But the attack of Roger Gulliksen’s brainchild was strongest in the lower part of the tournament.

In the off-season, the “blue-reds” performed uncertainly and were able to win only against Nordsjælland 2. In the last draw, Han Erik Odegaard’s guys played well together, but in this one they may well perform much better. So the team’s chances of maintaining their registration are very good.

Our forecast

Sandefjord players have more experience of performing at a high level than their main competitors, which means that the “blue-red” are likely to remain among the elite. If Fredrikstad performs in the Elitserien as well as last year in the OBOS League, then the “aristocrats” will also manage not to be relegated. Most likely, unstable Kristiansund and KFUM Oslo will be downgraded.
