Southern Premier South play-offs round-up

Southern Premier

AFC Totton 2-1 Bracknell Town (AET). Salisbury 2-1 Gosport Borough.

The two highest placed teams were made to sweat in a dramatic evening!

Salisbury went a goal down with just under 20 minutes remaining when Charlie Wassmer stabbed home following a scramble.

With time running out, a classy solo run and finish from Josh Hedges pulled the Whites level.

Extra time loomed, but wasn’t needed when in stoppage time Wassmer brought down Dan Fitchett in the box, and was subsequently dismissed.

Salisbury leading scorer Noah Coppin kept his cool from the spot, converting to send them into the final.

They were left to wait on possible opponents as AFC Totton’s match with Bracknell Town went to extra time. Tony Lee gave Jimmy Ball’s side a second half lead with a stunning free-kick, but it was cancelled out in the 87th minute by Gary Abisogun.

Ethan Taylor scrambled home an extra time winner for the Stags. They have home advantage on Monday’s Pitching In Southern Premier South play-off final in search for back-to-back promotions. Neither they or Salisbury, reformed in 2015, have played in Step 2 before.
