Bromley promoted to the EFL after dramatic penalty shoot-out at Wembley

Bromley promoted

Bromley have been promoted to the Football League for the first time in their history.

Captain Byron Webster fired in the decisive penalty in a 4-3 shoot-out victory that also saw Ravens keeper Grant Smith make two saves.

It came at the end of yet another another dramatic National League Promotion final at Wembley that had seen Andy Woodman’s side lead twice through ace marksman Michael Cheek only to be pegged back by Solihull Moors.

Cheek had put Woodman’s side one ahead at the break only for Joe Sbarra to equalise minutes after the restart.

The Bromley striker then hammered in from the penalty spot just before the hour after being felled by Moors keeper Nick Hayes in the box.

The lead was quickly cancelled out by Solihull skipper Jamey Osborne’s well-placed strike.

Bromley sub Alex Kirk hit the woodwork twice in extra-time – the fourth success time this final has gone beyond the 90 minutes – but neither side could find the breakthrough.

Smith denied Moors’ first two penalties – palming away from Tyrese Shade and Joss Labadie – to put the Ravens in the driving seat.

Hayes kept out Ashley Charles’ penalty but after the two sides traded two more successful kicks each, Webster stepped up to win it.
