He was on hand to convert from close range midway through the opening period after Luke Parkin directed Amir Birchall’s deep cross into his path.
Parkin forced Grimsby goalkeeper Liam Higton to make a smart save soon afterwards too.
Boro improved after the interval, and Pewits sub Charles Barks blocked Bradley Wood’s attempt on the line after Adam Drury and Jack Debnam combined.
