CANVEY Island’s early-season woes continued at home as they fell to a late defeat against Wingate & Finchley yesterday.
On a slippery surface, the Gulls put their hosts under pressure early on and reaped the rewards for their positive pressing play as Jamie Salmon fired home with a well-struck hit from the edge of the area.
The visitors never looked out of the game, though, and created chances from Ogo Obi and Luke Deslandes, though they did not trouble home goalkeeper Bobby Mason too much.
