DEPARTED: Nicky Law

MATLOCK Town have been boosted by a “significant investment” to help rescue their season – but manager Nicky Law won’t be around to benefit from it.

The NPL Premier bottom club have reached an agreement with a mystery local businessman to provide a cash injection with immediate effect.

“This investment will, in the short-term, enable the club to attract high calibre players to initially help maintain its NPL Premier status, and then aim to become a future contender for promotion,” the club said in astatement.

The announcement came just 72 hours after the Gladiators parted company with former Alfreton, Chesterfield and Grimsby Town boss Law after he picked up just two points from his six league games in charge. Under 21 coach James Holmes and club captain Shaun Brisley have taken interim charge of the team.
