Step 3

MARTYRS HIT DOLPHINS FOR SIX – IN ONE HALF!

POOLE TOWN 1

MERTHYR TOWN 6

A GAME of two halves saw Merthyr come back from a goal down at half time to take Poole apart in the second half and consign Poole to their third consecutive defeat.

The first half saw Merthyr create more chances than their opposition.

But Poole took an unexpected lead following good work down the left by De Luca whose cross was met by Ramos outstretched foot to guide the ball in to the near corner.

The Welsh side equalised when Evans’ neat pass over Poole’s defence was met by Preston-Watkins’ header.

Merthyr rapidly took control and had the lead when Twamley’s long to give Merthyr an em-range deflected shot went in the corner with the linesman’s offside flag being over-ruled.

Two more quick-fire goals for leading scorer Rees saw Poole floundering. The first following lovely build up play and a fantastic volley from the edge of the box, the second following neat one touch football with Simpson finding Rees unmarked for an easy finish. Two late goals for Twamley completed his hat-trick. The first saw Simpson’s powerful shot well saved but bounced off the bar to land at Twamley’s feet for a tap in.

The final goal just before the whistle saw Twamley surge forward and his shot rebounded back for him to tuck away at the second attempt

STAR MAN: Lewys Twamley (Merthyr)
