■ TWO goals from Bailey Thompson gave Pontefract Collieries an opening day victory, after seeing off Newton Aycliffe.
The Colls had started the better of the two teams, and took the lead after 23 minutes, when a great run from Frankie Sinfield found Thompson – who expertly found the back of the net.
Sinfield could have added a second, on the hour mark, when his corner was deflected onto the crossbar by an Aycliffe defender, with the keeper well beaten.
