National League North side Alfreton Town appoint Jake Buxton as manager

Alfreton Town have named former Burton Albion, Derby County and Mansfield Town defender Jake Buxton as their new first-team manager.

Alfreton Town have named former Burton Albion, Derby County and Mansfield Town defender Jake Buxton as their new first-team manager.

The 40-year-old joins from Derby, where he worked in several roles within the Rams’ academy and development set-up – most recently as senior transition coach, helping young players bridge the gap between youth and senior football.

Buxton is already a familiar face at the Impact Arena. He made eight appearances on loan for the Reds during the 2003/04 season.

His appointment sees him return to a club he knows well as he takes his first step back into senior management since leaving Burton in 2020.

Thrilled

“We’re thrilled Jake’s chosen to return to Alfreton and build something special,” said Alfreton chairman William Rush.

“He checks every box in terms of ability and experience, but above all, stands out for his character. Jake cares about winning and doing things the right way.”

Buxton takes over from Ryan Conneely, who left his role as interim head coach on Wednesday.

“[I am] delighted to be offered the opportunity to manage Alfreton Town Football Club, Buxton said.

“Thank you to both Derby County and Alfreton Town for making this happen.”

A statement from the club concluded: “Alfreton thanks Ryan Conneelly for his successful tenure as Interim Head Coach and is pleased that he will continue to operate as Head Coach of ATFC’s U23s and the Professional Development Programme (PDP).”
