■ TAKELEY shaded a tight contest, a proper non-league battle played on a heavy, energy-sapping pitch.
Takeley had two early chances: George Pullen hit the post, and Jack Mitchell missed an open goal from Jamal Obeng’s cross. Grays pressed but lacked creativity. Twice, home keeper Jarvis Monk fumbled the slippery ball but Grays couldn’t profit. He was also alert to tip over Sid Walker’s strike.
